It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruby “Joyce” Deaton Maddox on December 14, 2023. A Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend to many, she leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness.
Joyce was born on September 1, 1933 in Lynchburg, Virginia and grew up in Evington, VA. She was a devoted member of Timberlake Christian Church and spent many years singing with the church choir. She was also a member of the Campbell County Rescue Squad and Life Saving Crew. She spent much of her life serving her husband and family as mother and wife while working as a bookkeeper for the family business, Maddox & Sons Auto Service, Inc. Joyce also spent many years serving her community as a dispatcher for the Brookville Timberlake Fire Dept. and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Joyce is survived by her devoted sons, Dale Maddox (Lynn), Alan Maddox (Crystal), Alfred Maddox (Kay), and her loving daughter, Annette Dalton (Keith), and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Maddox. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Louise Corvin, Virginia Powell, Wretha Smith, and Pauline Goodman. Joyce leaves behind a legacy of 13 beloved grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom meant the world to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph A Maddox, Sr., her eldest son, Randy Maddox Jr., two siblings, James Deaton and Jean Giles, and her parents, Roy and Ruby Deaton.
Joyce was a beacon of selflessness and warmth, finding immense pleasure in time spent with her loved ones. Her talent for homemaking was evident in the care and dedication she poured into her family and home. Above all, Joyce cherished spending time with her family during the summers around the pool and the annual Christmas celebrations held at her home. She had just recently celebrated her 90th Birthday surrounded by many of her adoring friends and family.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Joyce’s unwavering love, her nurturing spirit, and her selfless dedication to her family and community will be dearly missed. Joyce brought light and love into the lives of those around her and leaves behind a legacy of enduring love and cherished memories that will continue to inspire and uplift future generations. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family and friends find solace in the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at Timberlake Christian Church, 20261 Lynchburg Hwy, Lynchburg, VA 24502. Service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 11 am with an hour prior visitation starting at 10 am. Interment will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg Virginia. Pastor Ben Moore will be officiating.
