Born in Rockbridge County, February 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harry Linwood Johnson and Gracie Carter Johnson. She was retired from the Lynchburg City Schools and was a member of Forest Road United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents and mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Lee Johnson and two sisters, Mildred Jones and Catherine Wade.
She is survived by three sons, L. Wayne Powell of Lynchburg, James L. Powell and his wife, Susan of St. Augustine, FL, and Vic J. Powell and his wife, Kathy of Lynchburg; three brothers, Raymond Johnson, Lloyd Johnson and wife Lillian and Thomas Johnson and wife Betty all of Amherst; six grandchildren, Michelle R. Powell, Sheri L. Powell, Carter L. Powell, Nicole L. Powell, Dillon J. Pendry and Kaitlyn E. Pendry, and four great grandchildren, Asia Reed, Gabrielle Reed, Lynaiah Irvine and Remi Kay Pendry.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. George Murphy officiating.
Family and friends are welcome to assemble at Laura’s residence following the service.
Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to do so from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
