

Marie Garrison Tyree, 84, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully at Fairmont Crossing Rehabilitation Center on Friday, March 26, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Buck Franklin Tyree; and her two infant sons, Joseph Robert (1965) and Andrew Dale (1971).
Marie was born on December 11, 1941, in Charlotte County, Virginia, the youngest daughter of the late William R Garrison and Gertrude Myers Garrison. She graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House and married the love of her life, Buck Tyree, on October 29, 1964. Together, they built a life in Madison Heights filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. They enjoyed traveling, riding Buck's motorcycle, bowling, and spending time with their cats, family and friends.
Following Buck's passing in 2002, Marie remained in her home, continuing to live an active and independent life. She traveled with friends, generously gave more than 2,000 hours of service as a hospital volunteer, bowled in a league, attended exercise classes, assisted with Meals on Wheels deliveries, and was a faithful member of Madison Heights Christian Church. She also loved to use her hands to craft and put her sewing skills to good use for several companies throughout the years. Well-known throughout her neighborhood, she could often be seen out walking ,her favorite pastime.
Marie leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Those wishing to honor Marie's memory may consider a donation to Meals on Wheels, the ASPCA, or a local cat shelter.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brandie Brooks for her devoted care in recent years. both before and after Marie's move to Fairmont Crossing. They also wish to thank the staff at Fairmont Crossing Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate and consistent care, especially during the final weeks of her life.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026 at the Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg followed by a Celebration of Life from 1 to 1:45 p.m., and interment at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
