Born January 21, 1918 in Campbell County, he was the son of the late Walter Thomas Smith and Maude Wiley Smith. He was a retired Side Conductor with Southern Railroad with thirty-eight years of service and was a member of Park View United Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Bettie S. Mason of Arizona and Barbara S. Bass and husband Bucky of Lynchburg; two sons, Charles L. Smith and wife Gail of Rustburg, and Bennie L. Smith and wife Kay of Concord; four grandchildren, Sherry Nykanen and husband Richie, Gregory Mason, Sharon Payne and husband Kenneth, and Travis Smith; one great-granddaughter, Jessica and a devoted friend, Jean Tweedy of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating.
