Mirle Matheny

Mirle Mathews Matheny, 76, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the devoted wife of William Edward Matheny for

forty-nine years.

Born December 2, 1933 in Vicksburg, MS, she was the daughter of the late Miller and Edith Safley Mathews and was also preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Mays.

Mrs. Matheny was a retired school teacher with the Lynchburg Public Schools System and was a member of Forest Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, John Mark Matheny and wife, Monica of Pacifica, CA, Joanna Matheny Shober and husband, Robert of Fayetteville, NC, Mike Matheny and wife, Marta of Paoli, PA, and Joel Matheny of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Miller Mathews, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Atlanta, GA and seven grandchildren, Lauren, Alex, Deborah, Sarah, Anna, Micah, and Selah.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Forest Baptist Church with the Rev. Tyler Scarlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2010 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
