
Born September 21, 1935, in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Robert G. Jones and Ella Proffitt Jones Cofer. He was also preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Jones was a United States Navy and Air Force veteran. He was retired from The United States Postal Service and was a member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital for 8 years.
Survivors also include his daughter, Audrey Lindsay and husband Bill, of Lynchburg; his son, Jerry Jones and wife Kathy, of Forest; a brother, Russell Jones and wife Frances, of Lynchburg; 9 grandchildren, Shane Lindsay and wife Amanda, of Lynchburg, Brooke Stanley and husband Brandon, of Concord, Brad Lindsay , of Alexandria, Jeremy Jones, of Lynchburg, Ashleigh Lineberry and husband Addison, of Forest, Amber Jones and fiancé Joey Rogers, of Huddleston, Brandi, Brian, and Zachary Jones, of Forest; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Pickerd and Parker Lineberry, of Forest.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, and at other times at the residence.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, by the Rev. Carl Weiser. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice or to Hyland Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olmstead and the skilled care unit at Centra Hospice for the care given to Mr. Jones.
