Nécrologie de Nancy Irvine Glover
Nancy Irvine Glover entered heaven on April 19, 2024, where she was joyously reunited with her husband, Robert “Bobby” Glover, and her son, Jerry Vincent Glover, both of whom preceded her in death. Nancy was also preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings. Nancy was the matriarch of her large extended family. She was better known as “Gran” by her grandchildren and most of Lynchburg, and Nan or Nancy Jane by her siblings and their children. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Glover Simms (Walt) and her stepsons, Larry Glover (Leda) and Mike Glover (Glenda). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Zephyr (Jason), Bobby (Riley), and Jacob, and great-grandchildren Wesley, Vincent, and Cooper, as well as step-grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, Laura, Kirt, Andrew, and Courtlandt, and their children. Nancy’s beloved brothers (“the boys”), Larry Irvine (Sue) and Bobby Irvine (Deb), and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended kin are also left to honor her memory, along with her close friend Kim Lukanich (Frank) and children. Born on December 16, 1937 to Mary and Lucian Irvine, Nancy grew up with eleven siblings in Clifton Forge, Virginia. Nancy was her “Daddy’s college girl,” and attended Dunsmore Business College before marrying the love of her life, Bobby Glover, on September 2, 1960. The two made their first home on Bath Street in Clifton Forge, where they welcomed their children, Jerry and Susan. The family moved to Lynchburg in 1970, and several of Nancy’s brothers soon followed. Nancy raised her family on Golf Park Drive, and as an “original Pioneer,” she helped open Heritage High School in 1976 and was a founding member of the HHS Boosters. Gran warmed bleachers for more than 60 years, from Little Leagues to Lynchburg City Stadium, VES, the University of Virginia, and Washington & Lee University. Nancy had a career in accounting and bookkeeping, and she retired from Presbyterian Homes & Family Services (now called HumanKind) in 1995. Never one to be idle, she later returned to work with Lynchburg City Schools, where she worked in the finance department and then at Fort Hill School, before finally retiring again in 2020. Nancy was a Presbyterian for her entire adult life. She was active in her church community and most recently belonged to Forest Presbyterian Church and formerly to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian in Lynchburg and McAllister Presbyterian in Covington. She kept a busy social calendar into her 80s, and leaves behind many friends as well as the friends of her children and grandchildren, most of whom affectionately know her as Gran. A visitation will be held at Whitten Funeral Home on Timberlake Road from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. We will honor Nancy’s life with a funeral service at Forest Presbyterian Church in Forest Virginia at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
