AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Nedra Meeks Shiverdecker

6 mars 1943 – 6 février 2026
Avis de décès de Nedra Meeks Shiverdecker
AUX SOINS DE

Whitten Timberlake Chapel

Nedra Meeks Shiverdecker, age 82, of Lynchburg, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Nedra lived a life of service to others and had a strong testimony of the atonement of Jesus Christ and His love for all God’s children. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, Nedra eagerly shared what she knew to anyone she encountered, including strangers in the grocery store or any one of her many nurses. She will be remembered for her determined resilience in the face of extreme hardship that would have broken many. As well as her faithful love and dedication to her children and husband of 61 years, Wallace Taylor Shiverdecker.

Nedra was no stranger to hardship, born March 6, 1943, in Springville, Utah. During the tumult of WWII, her parents Zella Cook and Willard Randal Meeks were soon parted as he soon left for the lengthy battle. Not long after his return home, Zella tragically died unexpectedly at the age of 29. Sometime later Willard met Ruth, a WWII nurse, who became a stepmother to his three young children. Nedra described Ruth as an angel of a mother, her constant comforter and refuge during difficult times. Nedra was preceded in death by her parents and brother Delaine Riddle.

Nedra met the love of her life, Wallace Taylor Shiverdecker, while attending the University of Utah. She was pursuing a degree in physical education while modeling and dancing ballet. Both avid ballroom dancers Wally and Nedra agreed they would have the most fun dancing through life together. They were married on January 11, 1965, and were sealed for all time and eternity, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. In their time together they welcomed nine children: Owen, Angela, Dayna, Jason, John, Melissa, Michael, Christian and Tamara.

Her proudest accomplishment was always her children. A mother of 9, grandmother to 32 and great-grandmother to 5, it is safe to say she lived for her children and family. Even during the last few months of her life when death seemed nigh, as soon as her children would come by, she would rally again to fight for another day, another week, another month. The thought of leaving when her children might need her near, was enough reason to continue her battle for life.

We look forward to continuing our adventures together in the eternities to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the LDS Chapel, 110 Melinda Dr., Lynchburg, VA, 24502.

If you desire to send flowers, please send potted ones, they will be used in a memorial garden.
