Oliver William Manspeaker, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For fifty years, he was the husband of Jeanne Starling Manspeaker. Born July 30, 1930 in Homestead, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth Walter and Margaret Cashman Manspeaker. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Chief Quarter Master, after serving for 22 years. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and received the Korean War Medal by the Korean government and the Combat Ribbon. He was a retired warehouse manager for the Lynchburg Pepsi Cola plant and a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mr. Manspeaker is survived by two daughters, Andrea M. Escalera and husband, Doug of Lynchburg and Elizabeth Manspeaker of Talmo, GA; two sons, Kenneth Manspeaker and wife, Tricia of Richmond and Steven Manspeaker of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Shannon Moctezuma, Lindsay Johnson, Catherine Manspeaker, Brent Manspeaker, Anna Escalera, and Olivia Escalera. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the funeral home.
