He was an inspiration to me.

Ralph always had a smile and a kind word. Always a very caring man. I very much enjoyed knowing him. I am glad he is no longer suffering but I see through your pictures Dawna the two of you have done a great deal of living and I hope that gives you comfort.

Paraphrasing  G. B. Shaw: " life is no brief candle, but a sort of splendid torch of which I've got a hold for a period of time; and I want to make that torch burn as brightly as possible before passing it on to future generations."

Ralph made the warm rays of his torch burn brightly and glow in the lives of all those with whom he came in contact. Those rays will beam forever in the memories of all his/our family and friends.

It was my pleasure and privilege to care for Ralph while at patient at Liberty Ridge. Even when so sick, Ralph was always so pleasant and many times managed a smile!  Dawna was his faithful companion and soulmate, by his side, to be his advocate and love him to the end.  I'm sorry to hear of his passing but so thankful we have the knowledge which gives us hope that we will see Ralph again someday.  So for now, it's not goodbye.  It's "see you later"!

Dear Dawna I was so sorry to hear about Ralph,and his trip home to glory. Although I didn't know Ralph personally, I did have the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times thru his brother(& my bro in law) Rick.He always had a great personality,smile on his face,and a warm hardy hand shake. I know that he is in a much better place today, no longer in pain,suffering,and sickness. Also knowing that he will be sorely missed by you, family and friends. Dear Dawna:  It was not our privilege to know Ralph, but the obituary and the photos were sure a great introduction. God bless you in the days ahead and I know His grace and comfort will be sufficient.  We well remember you from student days and from our contact with your Mom and Dad prior to that. Ralph always made us smile!  Even when there wasn't as much to smile about!  He had the best "Elvis" imitation!  We will miss him, but rejoice in knowing we will see him again.  We love you Dawna, and pray for you every day.

Ralph was a joy to work with. I always could count on him to provide a laugh whenever I spoke with him. A sense of humor is a gift that he readily shared. He was loved by his co-workers and the seniors he served driving them to Parks and Recreation activities. He spoke often and fondly of his family. He commented on what a fortunate man he was and loved you all. Many sympathies for your loss.  I am grateful for the chance to know him. He inspired this poem upon his retirement from the city.

From the Senior Program to Fifty-Plus,
Ralph gave ten and a half years behind the wheel of the mini-bus.
From home to center he was always there and ready,
With a hand to hold if you needed help to stay steady.
He met each day with a smile,
Which made each rider want to linger awhile.
If there was trouble in the road, he would always know,
Which was the best way to go.
His timing was always perfect with no hesitation,
Whether telling a joke or delivering you to your destination.
Serving so many seniors with patience was a character test,
Which he surpassed, always giving his best.
Even the ailing mini-bus woes, he took in stride,
Always still ready to serve, with an alternate van to ride.
He delivered newsletters and packages to the door,
Made stops for coffee, medicines, incidentals and more,
He made no request seem like a chore.
We will miss his help stopping at the banks,
He made our life easier, for this we say thanks.
Ralph and Dawna have a Happy Retirement enjoying whatever you choose to do:
Traveling, sharing special times with friends, family, and Augie doggie too.
Ralph served our country in the Navy, his church, his family, and now us,
We are so grateful you asked Benita about driving the bus.
So to coin your favorite Elvis phrase “Thank you, Thank you very much!”
