

Ricky Glenn Blount, 51, of Lynchburg passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at his residence. A stage 4 colon cancer survivor for 5 years, Ricky was a miracle who would always say “soldier on”. Ricky has now gone to heaven to be one of God’s soldiers.
Born on January 2, 1965 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Ray Lyons Blount and Pearl Darlene Ferguson. Ricky graduated from Heritage High School and was employed by Glass and Associates. He enjoyed watching and attending football games for both UVA and LU and he enjoyed attending the Lynchburg Hillcats baseball games with his son. Ricky was an avid believer and supporter of the Relay for Life Cancer walks and attended Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church.
Ricky was preceded in death by his step-father, Randolph Ferguson; step-sister, Ellen Ferguson; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Ruth Blount; and maternal grandparents, Ray and Virginia Harper.
He is survived by his son, Payton Joshua Blount; father, Ray Blount and wife Darlene; mother, Darlene Ferguson; sisters, Vicky Lynn Swift and husband Randy and Sheila Hight; brother, Jeffery Scott Ferguson and wife Iuliia; step-sisters, Jennifer Vaughan and Kristen Blair; special longtime friends, Darrell Glass, who was also Ricky’s employer and Eric Maness; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Darrell Glass and the staff at Glass and Associates for their care and support during Ricky’s illness. They would also like to thank them for making Ricky go to the doctor to find out he had cancer and for being his biggest supporter during that time.
A celebration of Ricky’s life will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 6 to 8 at the Masonic Lodge (Marshall Lodge), 1730 Wards Ferry Rd, Lynchburg, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend William Burleigh officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Emily Couric Cancer Center, 1240 Lee Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
