Robert Benjamin Nicks

Born in Winston Salem, N.C., he is the son of Artie Florine Harris Nicks of Siloam, N.C. and the late Byron Billson Nicks.

Ben was the assistant pastor and minister of music, emeritus, of Jordan Baptist Church and a loving son, husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his mother and his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joy Nicks Tyree and her husband, William, of Madison Heights and Rebecca Nicks of Lynchburg; four brothers, Michael Nicks and his wife, Judy of Siloam, N.C., Larry Nicks and his wife, Janice, of Va. Beach, John Nicks and his wife, Kim, of Coppell, TX and Paul Nicks and his wife, Gail, of North Carolina; a sister, Cindy N. Wall and her husband, Junior, of Siloam, N.C.; his granddaughter, Allie Brook Tyree of Madison Heights; other family members, Bobby Nicks and his wife, Charlotte, of Ashville, N.C., Crystal Childress and her husband, Randy, of Ronda, N.C. and Anita Abbey of Elkin, N.C.; special friends, Rick and Barbara Lanier and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ben was well cared for and loved by Michelle Hankins, Amber Mason, the folks at Centra Hospice and, especially, nurse Elaine. His family is forever indebted to them.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Jordan Baptist Church by Pastor Melvin Campbell and Rev. Clayton Bone. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2011, at Jordan Baptist Church.
