Sandra Akers Williams, 69, of Moneta, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at UVA Health University Hospital. She was born in Virginia on December 7, 1953 and was the daughter of the late James and Maxine Akers. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, James “Jay” Akers, Jr. and a special Aunt, Lorine Lambert. Sandra was a lifelong educator and her world revolved around teaching. She started and led the dental careers program at E.C. Glass High School and prided herself on making a difference in the lives of her beloved students. She retired from E.C. Glass after many years. Sandra enjoyed going to church and was actively involved in every church she attended. She enjoyed shopping, football, and spending time with her family and friends. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 51 years, Gary Williams; her loving son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Melissa Williams; the apple of her eye, granddaughter Claire Williams; sisters, Brenda Holdren, Debbie Caldwell (Lewyn), brother, Marty Akers (Sherry); special cousins, Butch Lambert (Connie) and Suzanne Woodward (Joe); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be conducted on Wednesday, December 6 , 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel officiated by Pastor Travis Whitt. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
