
Sheena Church Bell Hawks, 65, of Lynchburg and formerly of Warm Springs died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Lynchburg on Saturday, March 18, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Sheena had fought a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Sheena is survived by her husband, George Hawks; children, Roberta Lane (James) of Lynchburg, Michael Bell (Sarah) of Edinburgh, Scotland, Natasha Bell-Snyder (Joseph) of Clifton Forge and Matthew Bell of Charlottesville; siblings, John (Terri) Hudson of Covington, Eunice Wiens (Larry) of Bridgewater and Marilyn Coy (Michael) of Port Chester, NY; grandchildren, Stephanie Lane of Covington, Madyson, Kairan and Jaimie Bell of Edinburgh, Scotland, Savannah and Olivia Bell of Clifton Forge; great grandson, Haiden Johnson of Covington. In addition, she is survived by her nephews and nieces, cousins and a host of friends that were like her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Etta Church of Warm Springs.
Sheena was born on May 3, 1951, in Warm Springs to Grace Etta Church. She attended Valley High School in Bath County and graduated from Dabney S Lancaster Community College in Clifton Forge with an Associate’s degree in business. For many years, Sheena was an employee of the Omni Homestead in Hot Springs until her retirement in 2015 due to her illness.
She was an accomplished writer and story teller and loved to paint in her spare time. She was very generous and dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with them and a host of many friends. She loved to travel to Scotland to visit with her son and his family.
Per Sheena’s wishes she will be cremated. There will be no formal services but friends and acquaintances are welcomed to share condolences with her family and relate their happy and joyous stories in her memory.
Sheena was very happy with the care she received from Dr. Brian Robinson and staff at the Hahn Cancer Center in Harrisonburg. After moving to Lynchburg, she was cared for by Dr. Emaculate Tebit and staff at the Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center. The family would like to extend their thanks to all of her caregivers and to the palliative care and hospice service providers.
