Mrs. Ava Nell Rhodes

Funeral services for Ava Nell Bookman Prewitt Rhodes, age 91, are set for Monday, May 12, 2014 at 10:00 am at Eubank Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas. Family will be receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 11, 2014. Ava Nell was born on October 1, 1922 to Jarrett “Rock” Bookman and Lillie Bell Fails in Whitton Community. While embracing the hands of her grandchildren, Ava’s life journey ended on May 8, 2014 at her home in Corsicana, Texas. Ava Nell was the youngest of 7 siblings. In her younger years, she helped pick cotton on the family farm. At the age of 16, she married Calvin Mack Prewitt. During their 35 years of marriage, Ava Nell and Calvin had two sons, Kenneth Alvin and Ronnie Gene. Ava Nell was employed at A&P and Safeway Grocery chains as a meat wrapper. In the early 70’s she and Calvin moved to the Cedar Creek Lake area, where they started Seven Points Furniture. Calvin preceded her in death in 1974. Ava Nell married Joe Rhodes in 1981. He preceded her in death in 1994. She moved to Corsicana, Texas in 2003, to be closer to her sons, Ronnie and Kenneth, who preceded her in death in 2008 and 2011, respectively. Ava Nell was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church, the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and Eastern Star Chapter 1114. Ava Nell is survived by her sister: Willa Mae Holder; her grandchildren: Lynda Davis, Cherilynn Prewitt, Lisa Brandenburgh, Tina Cook, Tonya Doyle, Kinon Prewitt, Andrea Northern and Matt Prewitt; 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends. Ava Nell is also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson: Kenneth Mack Prewitt, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
