With tremendous sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Sue Hodge (Dickerson) Tillotson, 84, of Gun Barrel City, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home. It will be followed by a Graveside Service at 12:30 p.m. at Payne Springs Cemetery. Her loving cousin Joyce Hamby will officiate.
Barbara went home to meet her Lord and Savior on April 27, 2023 in Mabank, Texas. She was born in Hubbard, Texas to Stanton Audis Hodge and Annie Louise Lipsey Hodge.
Barbara grew up in East Texas where her parents pastored many church’s in the area bringing people the message of God’s love. Barbara was raised in the Assembly of God faith and loved the Lord. She married in 1956 to her first husband and moved to Dallas, Texas where she made her life and raised her daughter, for many years to come. Her faith in God help her through the loss of her first husband.
In 1977 she married her husband, Wayne Jerome Tillotson. The couple have had a great life together for 45 years. They were co-owners of WayBar Trucking, driving Big Rigs for many years. She could handle a Big Rig like a champ. They enjoyed traveling the country together. When they retired, they continued to love traveling in their RV and seeing everything they could see.
Barbara enjoyed genealogy. She spent many hours learning what she could about her ancestors. She enjoyed making T-shirts. She enjoyed stopping at garage sales and going to the thrift stores. But, what actually brought her great joy, were the Holidays. When her small family would gather at her home spending hours together over a holiday meal. Family time was the most precious time to her. When it was time to go, she would always say “No, you don’t have to go. Stay!”. You could easily make her day, by handing her any kind of Little Debbie Snack Cake. The only things she loved more than her chocolate, were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will always remain in the hearts and memories of those that loved her. And you only had to know her, to love her. She was the epitome of unconditional love and strength which she instilled in her family. It will carry on for generations. We will miss her every single day until we see her again. Life without her, just won’t be the same.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Stanton Audis and Annie Louise Hodge; her first husband of 20 years, Clarence Edward Dickerson; great grandchild, Mariah Nicole Reyes.
She leaves behind grieving family. Her husband, Wayne Jerome Tillotson; daughter, Lillie Louise Dickerson (Newman) Harris and her son-in-law, Michael Lee Harris; her grandchildren, Joseph Wayne Newman and Maegan Nicole (Newman) Reyes, her great grandchildren, Makayla Marie Reyes, Sammy Newman and Nolan Malory III.
She also leaves behind many other family members and many friends that she loved like family.
JOHN 11:25
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.
