Betty was born on March 30, 1936 in Mena, Arkansas to parents John Wesley Murphy and Cora Rowena (Fallis) Murphy and entered into eternal rest on November 17, 2019 at the age of 83. Betty married Edward Hammond on January 12, 1957 in Mena, Arkansas, they moved to Dallas, Texas immediately afterward and had been married for 50 years when Edward passed. She was a housewife, raised her children and became a beloved, very special and involved grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty loved being outdoors working in her flowerbeds. She had such a green thumb and took great pride in having a beautiful yard. Betty was of the Baptist faith and a quiet person who liked working crossword puzzles and word search. Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. She came from a very large family where she was known as the "little big sister". Betty was a very special person who will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rowena Murphy, husband Homer Edward Hammond, sister Mary V. Bain, sister Ruby Lee Spencer, brother Walter "Sonny" Dale Murphy and her sister Viola Orbra Hamner.
She is survived by daughter Joyce Ann Ramirez and husband Frank of Payne Springs, daughter Lenita Jean Nolen and husband Tommy of Canton, son Stanley Edward Hammond and wife Linda of Eustace, son Homer Wesley Hammond of Log Cabin, granddaughter Kimberly Jo Key of Payne Springs, grandson Jeremy Paul Craft and wife Tiffany of Gun Barrel City, grandson Billy Wayne Nolen and wife Kristi of Eustace, grandson Keith Edward Nolen and his wife Mandy of Mabank, grandson Anthony Lee Hammond and wife Ashley of Gun Barrel City, granddaughter Misty Jo Wing of Dallas, great grandchildren Hunter, Kailee Jo, Sebastian, McKenzie, Hannah, Abby, Tanner, Kahne, Karter, Payten, Mason, Grayson and Hannah, one great-great grandchild on the way, other loving family members and many more lifelong friends.
