Carol Gale (Martin) Stewart, 74, of Canton, Texas, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on December 22, 2024. Born on Sept 14, 1950, in San Diego, California, Carol was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Stewart; parents, Lena and Odell Martin; and brother, Hamilton.
Carol's early years were spent in the warmth of the San Diego sun, where she developed her love for the beautiful blue Pacific and an entire array of animals, especially horses—two passions that remained close to her heart throughout her life. As a young girl, she was a spirited red head; always full of surprises and fun, which her siblings enjoyed and many of the neighbors will never forget. She attended Helix High School in La Mesa, and after graduating from college, which included studying at Cambridge University in England, she married Bill and moved to Texas, where they built a wonderful life together.
Carol was deeply dedicated to her family, and her greatest joy was spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and animals. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Stewart) Crawford and son-in-law, Bill Crawford; grandchildren, Kyle and Kaylee Crawford; siblings, Marshall, Shirley and Barbara Martin; and a plethora of beloved furry friends.
In addition to her family, Carol had a lifelong passion for education and children. She worked in various educational settings, where her nurturing spirit and commitment to helping young minds flourish left a lasting impact. She was an avid reader and her dedication to the growth and well-being of others made her a beloved figure to all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 18, 2025 at 3 pm at her daughter’s home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carol’s memory to a no-kill animal shelter of your choice, a cause that was close to her heart.
Carol’s warmth, compassion, and dedication to family will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. May she rest in peace.
