
Charles Robert Eick, of Malakoff Texas, formerly of Milford CT, passed away peacefully at his home on July 18th at the age of 87; just two weeks shy of his 88th birthday. He was survived by is beloved wife, of over 50 years, Mary Bastedo Eick.
Born August 6, 1935 in Bridgeport CT to Charlotte Eick, he was a 1954 graduate of Bassick High School. Upon graduation he immediately and proudly joined the US Army and was stationed in Korea where he remained for much of his service. His military service was very important to him and was an active member of American Legions of both Bedford, VA as well as the American Legion Post 196 in Milford CT. Also, he was equally passionate about his lifetime connection to The Park City of Bridgeport as well as Connecticut. He was a lifelong meat cutter who worked in the Bridgeport area for over 45 years.
Most importantly to him, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and friend of many who was always proud of his family.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his son C Robert and his partner Beth of Wilton, CT and his children Ryan and Annie Eick Hill; his daughter Jennifer Eick Schmidtke and her husband David Schmidtke and their children, First Class E3 Jeremiah Judson Schmidtke and Samuel Jordon Schmidtke, all of Woodbridge, CT.
Also, he was a stepfather to Matthew McCoy of Trinidad Texas, Kathleen McCoy of East Haven, CT and Virginia McCoy Hedge and her husband Robert Hedge, of Malakoff Texas. In addition, he was a beloved grandfather to all their children, Tyler Norris, and Clayton Norris and his partner Dylan Rice, and Brandon Hedge and Bryan Hedge all of Texas. Shannon McCoy Mohan and her husband Mark Mohan, Robert Lyons, and Nicole Lyons Lagasse and her husband Dan Lagasse and their 4 children, Katelyn, Zachary, Aiden and Savannah, all of CT. He was especially close to his cousins, Judy Benedek of Fairfield CT, Dr. Kimberly Eick Kasper of Gulf Breeze FL, and Martha Eick Hyland and Catherine Eick Gosselin of CT and all their respective families.
His internment will be Monday, August 7th, at 10 am, at the State Veterans Cemetery, in Middletown, CT.
