

Gene was born on July 9, 1929 in Eustace, Texas to parents Clarence Monroe and Jimmie Minerva (Ashton) Bonsal and entered into eternal rest on July 20, 2017 at the age of 88. Gene attended Eustace High School and served in the military during the Korean War. He owned and operated Bonsal Construction. He was a wonderful country dancer and a strong willed man. Gene adored his only granddaughter, Ashley. He was a morning regular at Denny’s in Gun Barrel City, Texas where he ate his favorite meal, breakfast. Afterwards, he loved to go and visit in the morning and have coffee at local Dairy Queen in Mabank. He loved to travel and had traveled abroad with extensive travel throughout the United States. Gene was the last remaining charter member of Mabank Riding and Roping Club established in the 1950’s. He was an amazing man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter Paula Sexton and husband Gary of Mabank, granddaughter Ashley Sexton of Mabank, brother Royce Bonsal of Mabank, nephew John Bonsal of Dallas, his sweetheart Sandra Reese of Mabank, her sons; Art Cotton and wife Sandy of Oklahoma City, OK and Scott Cotton and wife Michele of Humble, granddaughter Caroline Cotton of Oklahoma City, OK, grandsons; Reading Cotton and wife Torey of Humble and Brandon Cotton, great-grandsons; Cullen and Hayes Cotton of Humble, aunts; Hughla Fae Beets of Mabank and Reba Steelman of Seven Points, other loving family members and many more friends.
