Harmon was born on November 8, 1928 in Athens, Texas to parents Arthur and Carrie (Easley) Guthrie and entered into eternal rest on October 5, 2018 at the age of 89. After high school, at the age of 17 in January of 1946, Harmon enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Then deployed to the Pacific to participate in WWII. In the Korean war he served on the destroyer, DD797 USS Cushing, for two years. Then reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving his country in the Cold War and Vietnam War, as a jet engine tech, retiring honorably in August of 1969 as a Tech Sgt. Serving in the military, Harmon was a man among men, strong, honorable, a brave patriot that was devoted to his country. After retiring from the military, Harmon went to work for Texas Clay Industry in Malakoff, as a keel operator. He worked there for 15 years plus. Harmon married the love of his life, Frances Williams, in 1958. They started a family and Harmon was the best dad. He was giving, loving and humble. Harmon enjoyed studying history and spending time with his family. He was an amazing man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Harmon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Travis Guthrie, brother Bill Guthrie and uncle Marshall Easley; who was KIA in Bataan, Philippines during WWII.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances Guthrie, son Travis Guthrie, step-sons; Bobby Bragg, Terry Bragg, David Bragg and wife Lucy, Ronnie Bragg, Wayne Bragg, James Bragg and wife Barbara, numerous grandchildren, sister Millie Ballard and husband John, cousin Vegie Darden, nieces and nephews, other loving family members and many more lifelong friends.
