Jane Ann (Harper) Gilley was born in Frederick, Oklahoma on September 18, 1950 and passed away peacefully at home in Trinidad, Texas on August 10, 2024. Janie was surrounded by the love of her life, Thomas Gilley, who survives her.
Tom and Janie’s love story began online, blossoming into a fairy-tale romance. They married on June 21, 2001 and celebrated 23 wonderful years together. Each day was a celebration of their love and never have two individuals been so perfect for each other. They completed each other and brought out the best in each other.
Janie was born in Frederick, Oklahoma to two devoted wonderful parents, Patsy Fae (Parks) Harper and Bob Edwin Harper who both preceded her in death. Janie did not have children of her own but warmly embraced her stepchildren Tom Gilley and Todd Gilley as well as step-grandchildren Lauren, Grant and Lexie Gilley. Janie is also survived by her two sisters, Sara Harper Sanger & Lisa Harper. These three ladies have been inseparable and are as close as sisters can be. They have always been each other’s best friend. Janie is also survived by her brother-in law, Craig Sanger, daughter-in-law, Karen Gilley and sister- in-law, Trish Pruitt.
Janie was born with a caring soul that she shared with the world a deep love of education and animals and a steadfast loyalty to her friends and family. After graduation from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Education, Janie began her career as a teacher in the Tulsa school system. She was witty, smart and inspired those around her. She taught her students to believe in themselves, refusing to give up on them no matter the struggle and continuing those relationships far beyond the school year. Her talents will live on for generations. Janie retired from education 2001 after her marriage to Tom Gilley and as she moved to Trinidad, Texas.
In retirement, Janie was a do-er. If you wanted something done everyone knew Janie would help take care of it! She was active on the internet into the wee hours of the night. She was a talented Wordle challenger and often battled her sister, Sara. Janie was a passionate football fan which Tom loved. She kept the foam brick for “Bad Calls“ in her hand as she cheered on the Dallas Cowboys and OU Sooners. Fall was her season with endless football games and chili. Janie delighted keeping the squirrels stocked with corn and was devoted to her sweet dog, Tootsie. Janie’s enthusiasm and zest for life was contagious. We praise God for the time we enjoyed Janie’s life here on Earth. Janie will be greatly missed by all.
Per her wishes, no formal services will be held here in Texas. She will be laid to rest privately in Frederick, Oklahoma next to her parents with her immediate family alongside her.
