John Rexal Gage, 73 of Eustace was born May 7, 1948 and went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Cherry, on September 4, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Rexal and Virginia Gage; his wife Cherry Gage; brother, Fred Gage; and brother, Robert Gage. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Hinkle and husband Rodney; daughter, Jennifer Warner and husband Jimi. As well as his grandchildren; Justyn Warner, and wife Caitline, Summer Anthony and husband Cade, Jacey Warner, Clay Hinkle, and Chloe Hinkle. Mr. Gage is also survived by his greatgrandchildren; Hadlee and Laynee Anthony and Jaxon Warner, along with his brother; Eddie Gage, sister, Becky Wallace, and a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
John served in the United States Army. He was drafted April 2, 1968 and Honorably discharged April 1, 1970. John's first duty station was 1st Armored Division, Ft. Hood, Texas; he was assigned to the 101st Airborne, 1st Battalion, 327th Brigade, also known as "Tiger Force".
John's awards were as follows: Vietnam Service Medal, Three bronze Service Star Medals, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Combat Infantry Man's Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star.
After John returned home safely from the Army, he spent 30 years working for TX DOT. He spent his retirement years hunting, fishing, and attending his Grandchildren's' events. Baptist by faith, John attended First Baptist of Eustace. John went by many names, including Mr. Gage, Daddy, Buddy John, Uncle Johnny, and his favorite, Papa.
