Claudine Richman Salter was born in the community of Prairieville, Texas on July 3, 1933 to Claude and Thelma (Greenslade) Richman and entered into eternal rest on December 13, 2022. Claudine attended school in Prairieville through the seventh grade and then went to Mabank until she graduated in 1950. She continued her education at Henderson County Junior College for two years. She transferred to North Texas State University where she earned a B.S. degree. She began teaching in Dallas and received a master’s degree in 1962.
While she was in college, a certain sailor began writing letters to her. He finally got a leave, and she began dating Herman (Babe) Salter. Babe and Claudine were married in Mabank in January 1955. They first lived in Oak Cliff before moving to Garland. Claudine and Babe lived in Garland for 50 years. They were active members of the First United Methodist Church where she worked with the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She also played the piano for her Sunday school class and sang in the choir.
She retired from Dallas ISD after 35 years of teaching. Her retirement allowed her to spend more time with family and friends, especially her mother. After a few years, Claudine and Babe returned to Mabank permanently. She enjoyed all of the clubs and organizations in which she was involved. She was a member of the Halcyon Club, Eastern Star, the Literary Club of Cedar Creek Lake, and an investment club of Mabank and Cedar Creek Lake. She was also active in the United Methodist Church of Mabank.
She enjoyed spending time reading, writing, working in her yard, and helping Babe on the ranch. Her greatest pleasure was taking care of her parents for many years and spending time with friends. She especially enjoyed the holidays and parties with family. She always had a listening ear and loving hug for the children. She and Babe loved their cows and had an abundance of love for their dogs. They were a devoted and loving couple. She always said life was good to them.
Claudine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Travis Richman, and beloved husband of 66 years, Babe.
Left to cherish her memory are nieces Trava Richman, Linda Grambling, Kathy Barnes, and Lesa Ooten, nephew Robert Salter, and sisters in law Joyce Salter and Shirley Meckley, special cousins Janice Sutton and family, and Nancy McDonald and family.
Claudine left this message to all of her friends and family, “It was a great ride. Thank you for putting up with me.”
A visitation for Claudine will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 at 10:00am at Eubank Cedar Creek, Mabank, Texas, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Mabank, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society.
The family would like to thank South Place Nursing Home, Hospice Plus, and Solaris Hospice for their love and care of Claudine.
