Nellie Marie Chandler Thomas was born October 26, 1933 in Prairieville, Texas to Leslie Carmon and Augusta Amelia (Gunderson) Chandler and left this life on May 10, 2023 at her home in Van Zandt County with her family by her side.
She began school at Wise and graduated from Mabank High School in 1952. After high school, she graduated from Tyler Commercial College with a diploma in Secretarial Science. After graduation she worked in Dallas for Swift's Ice Cream, Temco (later known as Ling Temco Vought- LTV) and was secretary for the resident engineer at McDonald Douglas Aircraft. In 1958, she married Louis Glynn Thomas, also of Mabank. After briefly living in Dallas, the couple moved to Mabank where they raised their family. Louis and Nellie welcomed three children, Dennis Paul Thomas, Leslie Glynn Thomas, and Eleanor Marie Thomas Osborne. Nellie was able to stay home and care for her children and husband for most of her 64 years of marriage. A member of the Mabank church of Christ, she was first and foremost a steadfast Christian who loved the Lord and her
family. She lived to laugh, tease and keep people smiling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven of her brothers. She is survived by her husband Louis of Mabank, her brother Gene Chandler of Chapel Hill, her sister Melba Page of Canton, her son Dennis and wife Debra of Mabank, son Leslie and wife Jeanine of Combine, daughter Marie and husband Robert Osborne of Mabank, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, many members of her church family and a host of
friends.
