Scotty Joe Lane was born to parents, Roy and Blanche (Mattingly) Lane on April 7, 1938 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2021 at the age of 82 years old. Scotty grew up working on his huge family farm in Saline County Illinois. He graduated high school from Harrisburg Illinois in 1956 and after graduation he joined the Navy on July 2, 1956. Scotty was aboard ship USS Eldorado as a Yoeman (administrative/clerical work) officer 3rd class. After his four years he did not reenlist and left the Navy on June 30, 1960 receiving a Gold Medal for Good Conduct. Scotty had a career as an Ironworker and was a member of Local Union 263 for 50 years and earned a lifetime membership. He was very proud to be a veteran and member of the Ironworkers Union. Scotty enjoyed gardening, reading, raising chickens, selling eggs, raising guineas, scrapping metal/junk, drinking cold beer and watching sports on TV especially the Dallas Cowboys. Years ago he enjoyed taking his family on trips to Illinois to see family especially his mom and making memories with them. He loved Hazel’s family especially her mama who he also called mama, they would watch Dodgers baseball games all the time. When his kids were younger he enjoyed coaching little league sports and he also enjoyed playing softball. Scotty loved classic country music, back in the days he loved 50’s music and he used to love dancing as well to both kinds of music. Scotty and the family use to play lots of poker games and dominoes. He was loved by so many and he loved whole heartedly. Scotty was very forgiving and didn’t hold grudges; always gave good advice and was very encouraging to his kids and grandkids. He made sure to tell them he loved them and how proud he was of them. Scotty was called Papa first by the grands and then he got the name Pops along the way. There are so many who are close family friends who also called him Papa/Pops and he was very proud of that and loved them all very much. Scotty was very proud of his kids, grands and being married to his beautiful wife, Hazel, for 61 years. He was dearly loved and words cannot describe how much we miss him. Scotty put up a three year battle against cancer and when he couldn’t drink his beer anymore, at the end of this past summer, that is when we knew the cancer was really taking a toll on him; he was determined to be here until his last breath. Our hearts are broken but he is not in any pain anymore.
