She had Alzheimer’s for fifteen years and was suffering from severe hearing loss. In the past year, she had recurring UTI’s and it was becoming harder for her to swallow.
She was born in Sulfur Springs, Texas, on July 13, 1930. She was the oldest of two children born to Loyd U. Chance and Velma Quine Chance. Sadly, her mother, Velma, died 3 years after she was born. Virginia became the backbone of the family of five children following the illness of her father’s second wife Myrtle.
She was the wife of Harold Lee Yaw for 32 years. They owned Dallas Motorcycle Sales on Main St. in downtown Dallas. Virginia was the secretary and bookkeeper.
Years later, after graduating from Christ for the Nations Institute, Virginia and her second husband, Richard C. D’Vincent, ran Cornerstone Ministry. It was a home away from home for the Navy and Marines stationed in Iwakoni, Japan. “Mom” cooked for up to 35 young men and women, while they held a church type service 5 nights a week. They brought many people to the Lord and “Pop” baptized many of them in the river.
Virginia moved to San Antonio, Texas, to live with her daughter in 2017 as her condition worsened and she no longer was allowed to drive. The week before she took her last breath she sang, “The Joy of the Lord in My Strength”, in her hospital bed.
She is missed by her daughter, Susan Oliver.
