Charles "Charlie" Melvin Stockwell

Charles "Charlie" M. Stockwell, 88, of Roscoe, IL, passed away, Tuesday morning, March 31, 2026 in Janesville, WI. He was born March 26, 1938 in Rockford, IL, the son of Melvin and Elaine (Morgan) Stockwell. He married the love of his life, Barbara Goebel on September 19, 1957 in Roscoe, IL. Charlie was employed by Tri-State Aluminum Products for over 30 years. He then became the Winnebago County Assessor for 20 years before retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Moose Club and the Masons. Charlie thoroughly enjoyed being on any body of water. He loved fishing and boating. Charlie liked bowling, playing horseshoes and tending to his vegetable garden. He was a cat lover, especially Heidi and Little Girl. Charlie was the patriarch of our family and will truly be missed.

Charlie is survived by his children, Roberta (Greg) Jones, Charlene Sypien, Cory (Bunny) Stockwell and Jim Stockwell; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Evie Ritter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara in 2011, son-in-law Tom Sypien, sisters Shirley Grunwald and Joyce Jacobson.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
