Charles "Zipp" J. Zipp

Charles J. “Zipp”, 79, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born November 13, 1930 in Jersey City, NJ, the son of Frank J. and Catherine (Gilmartin) Zipp. Zipp served in the U.S. Navy for 3 years before serving 22 years with the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed collecting stamps, antiquing, and working on his model trains Christmas village. Zipp had a sense of humor and a quick wit about him. He could befriend everyone that he met. Charles married Ovada Huffman June 15, 1957 in Walnut Ridge, AR. Survivors include his wife Ovada, daughters, Nancy Zipp, Susan (Geno) Paluzzi, grandchildren, Stacey (Chris) Haas, Corey (Theresa McKinney)Williams, great-grandchild MacKenzi Haas, Erika Villani, and a sister Kate Kowal. He was predeceased by his parents, numerous brothers and sisters, and multiple nieces and nephews. Special thanks to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center’s Jake, RN in the NICU-Unit and Danica, RN on 4-west for the special compassion they gave Zipp. Services will be at 10:00 am Monday, September 20, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine, Machesney Park. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
