David Raymond Fish, the Frito Bandito himself, 73, of Machesney Park, Illinois, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Dave was born on February 2, 1953, in Rockford, to Raymond and Evarista Fish. He graduated from Harlem High School and went on to work at Sundstrand. Although he did not serve formally in the military, Dave was extremely proud of his work at Sundstrand, as he built many planes that defended our country. Although he enjoyed this, his true passion was fixing cars as a mechanic. This was a life-long project for him, as he found joy helping others. On October 19, 1990, Dave married his sweetheart, Kimberly.
Dave had a personality that would be hard to match. He was funny, loving, and extremely dedicated to others. He loved his Lord, and it was the foundation of his life. Dave liked to make others laugh with his comedy skits, some planned, and some improv. He was also known for guitaring around, as he loved music. Dave also religiously cheered on Dale Earnhardt and had a special appreciation for NASCAR. When the weather was nice, he loved to fish around the area.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kimberly; mother, Evarista Fish; children, Keith (Jess) Fish, Heidi (Joe) Weir, Samantha (Tony) Whaples, Rebecca (Timothy) Killeen, Amber Fish, and Jason Powers; 17 grandchildren who he loved dearly; sisters, Linda Littlejohn and Patti Bontjes; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Earl Fish, and brother, Jeffrey Earl Fish.
A visitation for the Frito Bandito will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 9:00am until the Time of Sharing Service at 10:00am. The family invites you to share a special story or memory during this time. Following, he will be laid to rest at Capron Cemetery in Capron, Illinois.
