David Dave Charles Gustin

David was born on June 20, 1946 in Cass County, Iowa. Dave was the son of John and Anna (Wall) Gustin. Dave graduated from Chicago Technical College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering in December of 1970. He worked for Altra Industrial Motion (formerly Warner Electric) in S. Beloit, IL for 42 years until he retired in June of 2015. He served in the Army from 1965 until 1967 and spent a year in Vietnam with the 25th infantry division. He was a member of SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) for 40 years, ASM (American Society of Metals) and the Disabled American Veterans. Dave enjoyed gardening, working on cars, tractors and building furniture. Dave loved square dancing and was a member of the Petunia City Square Dance Club,

Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara; three children Christine Gustin, Rebecca Kunz and Jeffrey Gustin; 3 grandchildren Ciara Kunz, Willow Gustin and Jonathen Smith; 3 sisters Leota Meyer, Lois Shafer and Mary Crees; 1 brother Wayne (Anamary) Gustin; brother-in-law Ken Swinbank and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jim Gustin and a nephew Matthew Gustin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

A service to celebrate Dave’s life will be 2:00 pm Sunday January 29, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park. Visitation for Dave is from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be at Willwood Cemetery in Rockford immediately after the service.
