

Dolores Ruth Akers D’Angelo, 93, of Cherry Valley, IL passed away May 21, 2025. She was born July 3, 1931 in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Fred J. and Mary Teresa Agnes (Stiles) Akers. Dolores worked at National Lock until she married the love of her life John Antonio D’Angelo. She took on the role of being a dedicated stay-at-home mom who found immense joy in caring and nurturing her family. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, her husband and children was always her priority. She had a heart of gold. This was evident in the everyday moments: cooking hearty meals, sewing (making school uniforms, Halloween costumes, dresses and doll clothes for her grandchildren). She learned how to crochet and liked to make blankets and take them to different charities. Dolores cherished praying the rosary and going to church. Dolores was an avid reader, always having a book in her hand. She also enjoyed doing crosswords, playing solitaire on her tablet, watching game shows, playing gin 500, playing Yahtzee and playing Uno with her grandchildren.
Dolores is survived by daughters Teri Herbert (Ed), Twyla Hauser (John) and Tina McCarty (Steven); Sons Ted D’Angelo (Mary), Joe D’Angelo (Amber); sister Sylvia DiTomassi; grandchildren Heather Herbert Velasquez, Eric Herbert, Jada and Johnny Hauser, Mercedes Alonzo, Jake Turner, John D’Angelo (Amanda), Nicole Vaughan, Arial, David, Catie, Jennifer, and James D’Angelo; great grandchildren Anthony, Briana, Sonia, Gabe, Joshua, Sophie, Liam, Liliana, Nicolas, Demetrius, Jeremiah and Story, and many great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her most and will forever be in our heart.
Dolores is preceded in death by husband John Antonio D’Angelo, sons Thomas, Tylor and Tim and grandson LCPL Joshua W. Milsaps, parents Fred and Teresa Akers, sister June Hon, brothers Roland and Fred Akers.
