Donna J. Spires, 77, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, June 20, 2018 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born April 6, 1941 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Emil and Arlene (Eppler) Barr. She married the love of her life, Larry Spires on April 16, 1960. Donna retired from Woodward Governor after more than 35 years of service. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Chapelwood Community Church where she served as a church secretary and as the superintendent of Sunday school. Donna was a member of A Classic Chorale for many years. She enjoyed reading, singing, and crafting handmade cards, and spending time with family. Donna is loved and missed by her son, Gary (Sarah) Spires; grandchildren, Danielle (Ariel) Spires, Mikayla Spires, Aidyn Spires, and Abram Spires; siblings, Richard (Lavina) Barr, Larry (Michelle) Barr and Kathie (Mike) Rager; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Larry.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
