Dorothy Ellen Hoffman, 90, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Dorothy was born in Rockford on July 18, 1934, to Steve and Ruth Adams. She attended Rockford West High School. She married the love of her life, Jack P. Hoffman, on June 26, 1954. Dorothy was a loyal employee at Rockford Memorial Hospital for over 30 years and also enjoyed a part-time job at Centro Ace Hardware. Dorothy really never knew a stranger, as she made friends everywhere she went. Dorothy’s home was truly a “home-away-from-home” to many of her children’s friends. She gave a positive burst of energy to countless friends and family members, as she never complained about anything. Dorothy seemed to always be in the mood to go shopping, followed by a good lunch – especially at Stockholm Inn. Above all else, being a grandmother was her favorite role.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Ellen, Jack Charles (Vickie) Hoffman, Jill Patrice (Jim) Doyle, and David Owen (Jamie) Hoffman; grandchildren, Abigail E. (formerly Jenkins) (Roy) Sackmaster, Elizabeth P. (formerly Jenkins) (Daniel) McMullen, Jacob P. Hoffman, Courtney M. (formerly Hoffman) (Stephen) Oiler, Jessica A. (formerly Doyle) (Michael) St. Angel, Lucas J. (Ashley) Doyle, Edward C. Hoffman, and Helen M. Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Hazel, James, and Owen Sackmaster, Eli and Rocky Oiler, Carlo and Enzo St. Angel; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Steve and Ruth; sister, Patricia “Pat” (Richard) Peters; parents-in-law, Owen and Florence Hoffman.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring and loving angels at Heritage Woods - Rockford, River Bluff Nursing Home, and Northern Illinois Hospice.
Per Dorothy’s wishes, Dorothy has been laid to rest privately beside her husband at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, Illinois.
