Edward V. Hoffman, 83, of Rockford, died on May 7, 2010 in his home, surrounded by his family. Born September 17, 1926 in Rockford, the son of Alden and Lila (Sweeny) Hoffman. Proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean War with the U.S. Army. Married Genevieve DeWitt on December 11, 1944. Retired from Quaker Oats after 20 years of employment. Edward enjoyed golfing and was an avid gardener and outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Survived by his wife Genevieve Hoffman; children, Dawn Lovell, Phyllis (Terry) Bishop, Betty Dant and Vernon E. Hoffman; brother, Robert (Karen) Hoffman; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; son, Edward V. Hoffman Jr.; sister, Aldena Shepherd and brother, Joe Hoffman. Funeral service at 2 pm on Friday, May 14, 2010 in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
