Emma was born in Tallula, IL, the daughter of Louis and Mona West. Emma married Howard Burriell in 1946 and he preceded her in death, she then married Sherman Powles in 1980 and he preceded her in death. Emma loved shopping and spend time with her family.
Emma is survived by her children: Connie (Gary) Helm, Bonnie Miller, Donna Chapman, Linda Burriell, Patty (Armond) Mattingly and Robert Burriell; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister Ruby Ethel Smith.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, son Duane Burriell, 12 siblings.
Memorials are suggest to Northern Illinois Hospice in Rockford.
A service to celebrate Emma’s life will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; visitation for Emma will be from 12:00 pm until time of service. Entombment will be in Chapel of Love at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
