Ernest was born in Capron, IL on February 22, 1924, the son of Emil and Louise. Ernest worked as a machinist at various machine shops in the Rockford area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII where he received 4 bronze stars. He was a lifelong member of the Belvidere VFW. Ernest was a member of the Mariner’s Club at Willow Creek Presbyterian Church. Ernest loved gardening and farming.
Ernest is survived by his step-children: Connie (Roger) Foss, John (Pam) Lack and Thomas (Grace) Lack; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Linda) Sanders; sisters Doris (Bob) Scofield, Alice (Gene) Blair and Rosemary (Richard) Kwilosz; several nieces and nephews.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, step-son Michael Lack, brothers Harry and Leroy, sisters Elsie and Ella.
A service to celebrate Ernest’s life will be 2:00 pm Wednesday February 17, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial with Military Honors will be Sunset Memorial Gardens
