Gladys M Westphal

Gladys Mae Westphal, 93, of Rockford, passed away peacefully July 9, 2016, after a very long illness at River Bluff Nursing Home. Gladys was the loving daughter of Enoch and Iva (Stansbury) Holm, born on May 12, 1923, in Pleasant Valley, IA. Married Elmer Westphal in 1940. He predeceased her after 49 years of marriage in 1990. She was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL. She was an Avon Lady for over 20 years and even at one time was in the top 5 within the county. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, brothers, sisters, and their families. Laughter and card games were always important. She was a very kind, sweet, generous, forgiving lady and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen (Jack) Carroll, Kenneth (Deb) Westphal, Karen (Leonard) Vitale; grandchildren, Heather (Christopher) Cox, Kaare (Carrie) Jacobsen, Tara (Thomas) Southard, Des Carroll, Ryan Westphal; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Genke, Arlene Burkhardt, Arne (Barbara) Holm; sister-in-law, Edith (Donny) Holm and Lorraine (Howard) Holm. Predeceased by her parents and spouse.

Funeral Service on July 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Visitation at 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Entombment at a later date. To share a memory visit www.sunsetfhmemgardens.com
