Howard Mead

Howard L. Mead, 79, of Loves Park passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore. Born January 4, 1932, in Cazenovia, WI; the son of the late Otto and Sarah (Gathright) Mead. He moved to Rockford as a child. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Howard married Harriett N. Cousin on June 4, 1954. He was employed as an engineer at Greenlee Tool Co. for 44 years. He was a thoughtful, giving person and will be greatly missed by his family. His favorite past times were working in his yard and playing games on his computer. Survivors include son, David (Sue) Mead of Cherry Valley, daughter, Roxanne Barrone of Loves Park, grandchildren, Brian Barrone, Jennifer Barrone, and Brandon Mead, brother, Charles (Kathy) Mead of Calvert City, KY, sisters, Ruth Fulton-Anderson, Joyce (Ray) Moderhack both of Rockford, and JoAnn Porter of Machesney Park, sister-in-laws Evelyn Attebery and Joyce Winston both of Machesney Park and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by former wife Harriett Cousin, son Jeff Mead and brother-in-law Kenneth Cousin. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday, April 5 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
