

Joel D. McClanahan, 78, of Machesney Park, passed away November 3, 2022. He was born on July 25, 1944, in Freeport, to Marie and Frank McClanahan. He graduated from Harlem High school, class of 1962. He married the love of his life, Vicki, and together they shared 4 children and 58 years in marriage. Joel was a sociable and friendly man. He enjoyed spending time on his motorcycle, or going fishing, and wood working. He never stopped learning, he was mechanically inclined and enjoyed fixing things and tinkering with new projects. He was a talented organist and loved music. Joel was also dedicated to his community. He was one of the first trustees of the Village of Machesney Park, and he went on to own and operate J&J Ultrasonic Blind Cleaning for over 25 years. Joel was a deeply dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife; Vicki McClanahan, their children; Michelle (Bob) Proudfoot, Steve (Malisa) McClanahan, Mindy McClanahan, and David (Lisa) McClanahan, grandchildren; Shelbie, Daniel, Ethan, Patrick, Madison, Mara, Dax, Nalida, and Nolan. He is also survived by his brother; Mark Backes, as well as numerous extended family members and friends whom he loved dearly.
He is predeceased by his parents.
A funeral mass for Joel will be Friday, November 11, at 11am at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Located at 600 Clifford Ave. Loves Park, IL. 61111. Visitation will take place at 9am until the time of service.
Entombment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
