

John Dietrich, 96, of Rockford passed away peacefully on March 20, 2016 in Rockford. John was a proud Veteran of the U. S. Army Air Force from 1942-1945 and served during World War II. John met and married the love of his life, Phyllis May Campbell in 1954. John worked as a machinist for Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford for 33 years and retired in 1984. John enjoyed spending time with his family, watching the Chicago Cubs, reading, riding his bike and watching and betting on the horses. His kind and caring ways, his big heart and his gracious smile and laughter will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
John is survived by his sons: Ken Dietrich (Donna) of Machesney Park and Jerry (Jackie) Dietrich of Byron; grandchildren: Stephanie (Robert) Masterson, Kyle Dietrich and Ryan Dietrich (Kelsey); great-grandchildren: Garrett and Abigail Masterson, Ryleigh Ann Dietrich; siblings: Jason (Betty) Dietrich, Robert (Donna) Dietrich, and Harold (Lois) Dietrich, Pauline Swanson and many nieces and nephews from the surrounding area.
John was predeceased by his wife Phyllis May (Campbell) Dietrich in 1991; brothers Lloyd Dietrich and Russell Dietrich; sisters Elizabeth “Sis” Guyer, Irene Borneman, Dorothy Garner; parents Russell and Cora Dietrich.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice for their compassion and support during this past month.
A celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm Friday March 25, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park with Military Honors.
