Kay E. Dobson, 80, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017. She was born in 1937, in Dale, Hamilton County IL, the daughter of Paul & Doris Hunt. She married Jack Dobson and together had “two big boys and two little girls”. Kay worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance most of her life, retiring in 1999. Following retirement, Kay traveled throughout the Midwest and Las Vegas, visiting her children.
She taught Sunday School and was an active member of Lincolnwood Baptist Church for many years. Kay loved to spend time outdoors, tending to her yard. Through her early years of line dancing, she met life-long friends. Kay was known to set a beautiful dining table and was ready at any time to receive friends and family in to her home. Kay never passed up a good bargain at a garage sale. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Always generous in spirit, Kay would help those in need in any way she could. She supported organizations such as the Rockford Rescue Mission, Youth For Christ, and various Veteran Groups.
Survivors include sons, Marty Dobson, David (Mary) Dobson; daughters, Michelle (Tony) Calabrese, Marleen (Reid) Harrison; grandson, Anthony Calabrese; brother, Max (Dana) Hunt; sister, Kathryn (Joe) Mitchell; sisters-in law, Jeannie Dobson, Janice Thomure; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend, Les Rogers.
Visitation will be 1-3 pm Sunday, November 19 with Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Burial will be Monday, November 20 at 10:00 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
