Larry K. Mowell

Larry K. Mowell, age 78, of Machesney Park, Illinois passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born November 2, 1946 in Rogersville, TN, to Luther and Ruby (Underhill) Mowell, Larry attended Harlem High School and joined the United States Navy at just 17 years old. Shortly thereafter, Larry met and married the love of his life, Kathryn Neblock, on March 20, 1966 in Rockford. Initially stationed at Miramar Naval Base in San Diego, Larry selflessly served his country, including two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS Constellation and USS Coral Sea. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree from Cardinal Stritch University. Larry began his illustrious civilian career at Hamilton Sundstrand before sharing his talents at Borg Warner, ultimately retiring from Cotta Transmission in 2015. Larry's creativity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness could be seen in every aspect of his life. He could come up with any way to fix things with the minimal amount of materials. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed racing motorcycles, playing and coaching baseball. Larry took pride in his impeccable lawn; but his true pride and joy was his beloved wife and children. Larry adored spending time with his family, teaching and watching them grow.

Larry is loved and missed by his wife, Kat; children, Megan (Grant) Owens, Kyle (Jordanka) Mowell and Kylynn (Erin) Mowell-Schreiner; siblings, Patsy Reimer and Michael (Antonia) Mowell; niece, Lisa (Rick) Egbert; nephews, Christopher (Holly) Mowell and Matthew Mowell; cousins, Geneva (Chris) Archer and Nathan Hughes. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Kevin Mowell, his parents, brother Gary Underhill and beloved dog, Gizmo.
