

Leon G. Broege, 78, Loves Park, passed away peacefully on july 31, 2013, at home with his family by his side; after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 4, 1935 in Monroe, Wisconsin to August and Dorothy (Tschabold) Broege. He served in U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 and later married Marian Pastorius on July 30, 1955.
He was employed at J.I. Case Company from 1955 to 1970 and at Borg Warner/Rockford Clutch/Rockford Powertrain from 1970 until his retirement in 1997.
Leon was a member of Grace Lutheran Church; he was also a lifetime member of the Blackhawk Field Archers, the VFW and the Roscoe Sportsman Club. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, he also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, golf, hunting, and dancing; but he mostly enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Marian.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; his children, Kathy (Rick Albee) Schewe and Doug (Melodi) Broege; grandchildren, Shanna (John Sutherland) Schewe and Clay (Megan Taylor) Schewe; and great grandson, Brayden Sutherland.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, August “Footy” Broege and LeRoy Broege.

Funeral service will be held at 10am, August 5, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Ave, Loves Park. Pastor Brent Dahlseng will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park. Interment will be Sunset Memorial Gardens.
