Leslie Martin

Leslie M. Martin, 58, of Rockford passed away Thursday August 31, 2017. Leslie was born on February 2, 1959 in Rockford, the daughter of Charles and Patricia (Johnson) Tomkus. Leslie married Tim Martin on August 3, 1983 and lost him in a tragic accident in 1997. Leslie was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was passionate about her faith. She worked with Illinois Growth Enterprises. Leslie enjoyed a variety of music and live theater. She could be found tirelessly pursuing the “thrill of the hunt” at various thrift shops and garage sales. Leslie had a special place in her heart for little children and animals. She will be deeply missed by those who truly knew her.

Leslie is survived by her sister Maria Zito- Lewis; brothers Tim and Jake Tomkus; aunt Terri and uncle Glen Hartjen; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Julie Tomkus and her beloved cat Mandy.

A service to celebrate Leslie’s life will be 2:00 pm Saturday September 9, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
