Linda was born December 9th, 1955 in Rockford, Illinois to parents Duane Duhigg and Jessie Lawton (née Joles). She attended Harlem High School (Class of 1974) and soon after moved to Oklahoma where she had her beloved son David. Linda and David then moved to Texas and then Hawaii for a time, but eventually returned home to the Loves Park area where she put down roots.
Over the years, she worked in management for Arby’s (5 years), Taco Bell (17 years), and Pizza Hut (10 years) before being introduced to merchandising 10 years ago at Woodman’s where she ran her own business for the last 3 years.
In 1988, while working for Arby’s, Linda met her knight in shining armor and true love, Kelly Lawver. The two wed shortly after on April 8th, 1989. They welcomed their beloved daughter, K’Lynn, to the world in 1994. Kelly and Linda enjoyed 31 blissful years together.
Linda was a loving and compassionate soul who never failed to lend an ear to those who needed it. Her greatest passion in life was helping others, and she loved to make people smile. Her family was always her top priority, and she was so proud of the life she had made. She would tell everyone who would listen about her amazing husband, her son, a police officer, and her daughter, a teacher.
Over the years, Linda enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, travelling with her husband, and relaxing with her precious furbabies. She especially loved going to Mexico and Charleston with Kelly, listening to all of David’s stories from work, and hearing K’Lynn tell stories about her students. She was the glue of the whole family, and everyone she met could tell. She was such an easy person to love!
Linda is survived by her husband, Kelly; son, David Burk; daughter, K’Lynn (Johnathon Cobb) Lawver; grandchildren, Vanessa Rocha, Dylan (Candace) Burk, DJ Burk, Collin Burk, Sofia Burk, and Kyler Burk; parents, Duane (Judy) Duhigg and Jessie Lawton; siblings, Rick (Shelley) Duhigg, Sandee (Steve) Berger, Tom (Kathy) Duhigg, Tim (Vicki) Duhigg, Jack (Sue) Duhigg, Rick (Nita) Lutzow, Rod (Jacki) Lutzow, Laurie (Don) Ramboldt, and Janelle (Jim) Standish; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Dolly Lawver.
A limited walking visitation will be held on Friday, April 24th at Sunset Funeral Home from 1pm - 2pm. A private funeral service will be held thereafter. A celebration of life for family and friends to grieve together will be held at a later date.
