

Mabel was best known for her cookies, she loved to bake, especially chocolate chip cookies. Some of her other favorite activities included gardening and playing cards. Mabel was a social butterfly, she was in all the lunch clubs and card clubs in Heritage Woods. When her daughters were little she was always room mom, Girl Scout leader, very active on the PTA. She loves her family and was so very involved with her grandchildren she would stay near them for a month at a time to help them.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Pechin; grandsons, Hunter (Maritza) Pechin and Samuel Pechin; great-grandchildren, Catalina Pechin and Oscar Pechin; and son-in-law Joe Szkodzinski.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Anna Nyberg; daughter, Susan Szkodzinski; and siblings Ella, Bert, and John.

A visitation for Mabel will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 827 16th Street, Rockford, Illinois 61104. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Stockholm Inn, 2420 Charles Street, Rockford, Illinois 61108.
