Marion “Shorty” Pond, 87, of Loves Park, IL. died Wednesday, February 4, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born October 27, 1927 in Acorn, MO. To John and Cecil (Helms) Pond. He married Geraldine Bell, she was 16 and together shared 66 years of marriage while raising their three children. He worked for over 30 years as a machinist for Sundstrand. Upon retiring he served as Sheriff for nine years with the Rockford Park District. He was an active member of the SM&SF club and a life time member of the Northern Illinois Bluegrass Assoc.
Shorty had many interest in life; trap-shooting, bowling, golfing, hunting, and most passionately music, playing the guitar and mandolin.
Survivors: loving wife, Geraldine; children, Robert (Robin), Kathy and Michael Pond; Grandchildren, Tina (Ryan) Thomas, Kyle (Ashley), Christopher (Toby), David, and Steven Pond; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of many good friends.
