Meryl R. Knight

Meryl R. Knight, 75, of Freeport passed away at home with family by her side on October 28, 2019. Meryl was born on November 4, 1943 in Rockford, the daughter of Raymond and Janet (Compton) Burd. She married John E. Knight on April 16, 1966 and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2017. Meryl was very active and a member of Freeport Bible Community Church. She enjoyed playing “Tiger Woods 07” on the Wii system with anyone that would play. Meryl loved to cook for her children, grandchildren and anyone who would be visiting her home. She loved card games and old country music songs. Meryl is survived by her children: Debra Sink, David Shellstrom, Daniel (Tricia) Shellstrom, Dawn (Rob) Curington and John E. (Cassandra) Knight II; grandchildren: April Fouke, Ron Beilfuss, Joshua Beilfuss, Nicole Betts, Johnathan Shellstrom, Justin Shellstrom, Amanda Shellstrom, Justin Wood, Alexandra Shellstrom, Daniel Shellstrom, Brandon Curington, Emily Curington, Jacob Curington, David Saylor, Destiny Knight and Dylan Knight; numerous loving great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers Dan Burd and Jimmy Pettit; sisters Kathy Lundholm and Patricia Hassell. Meryl was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.

Visitation for Meryl will be Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 9:00 am until 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; services to celebrate Meryl’s life will be 10:00 am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
