Michal L. Deets, 70, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning, April 1, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 8, 1953 in Sterling, IL, the son of Lawrence and Bette (Hollis) Deets. Michal graduated from Rock Falls High School and joined the United States Navy, where he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sterling. Michal was a member of Pine Tree Pistol Club. He was employed as a school bus mechanic for North Boone School District. Michal was the proud owner of MD Floors and worked for Specialty Floors for many years. He enjoyed shooting, hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
He was survived by his loving soulmate, Cheryl Johnston; children, Jennifer (Michael) Ingram and Hollis Deets; step-children, Marcello “Chello” Luna and James Smith; grandchildren, Samuel Michal Ingram and Jessica Ingram; siblings, Mark (Teri) Deets and Marshall Deets; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-son, Nick Luna.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
